"The Islamic Republic of Iran's Self-Defense Response to the Israeli Regime's Attack on Iranian Diplomatic Premise in Damascus"

 The Israeli regime has been the root cause of wars, instability, and genocide in our region, i.e., West Asia, since its inception. In recent months following October 7th, the world has witnessed the brutality of that regime in killing civilians, especially women and children, and starving people in Gaza and the West Bank of occupied Palestinian lands. In recent years, the Israeli regime has committed numerous crimes and atrocities against the Islamic Republic of Iran, including assassinations of Iranian scientists, sabotage in peaceful energy installations, infiltration of mercenaries and terrorists into Iran for bombing and killing civilians. The Israeli regime has also attacked and martyred Iranian military counselors across regional countries who had diplomatic immunity, breaching the legal immunity of I.R. Iran diplomatic premises frequently.

On April 1st, 2024, the illegitimate entity waged missile attacks on the consulate building of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, resulting in the ruin of the five-story building and the martyrdom of at least 7 Iranian military counselors. This action by the Israeli regime violated the United Nations Charter and international conventions, including the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Immunity and the 1973 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes Against Internationally Protected Persons.

I.R. Iran called on the United Nations Security Council, responsible for maintaining international peace and security, to condemn the Zionist atrocities and prevent its further evil acts. However, this international body was not even able to issue a statement in condemnation of the Apartheid regime due to double standards and a disregard for international law by the US and its Western allies.

Iranian FM, Dr. H. Amir Abdollahian, reiterated the necessity for condemning the Israeli regime's acts of crime and breaches of international laws and conventions, and the need for preventing it from further atrocities in numerous phone calls with his counterparts around the world, including the Australian Foreign Minister, in order to prevent the Israeli Regime from taking an impunity status and getting emboldened to commit further crimes.

After more than 12 days, in conformity with its inalienable rights under Article 51 of the UN Charter pertaining to self-defense, I.R. Iran took necessary measures against military centers in occupied Palestine, precisely avoiding targeting any civilians or non-military centers, and then declared the end of its professional operation. I.R. Iran reaffirms its commitment to the United Nations Charter and international law, emphasizing its determination to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against any illegal use of force and aggression as its legitimate right to self-defense. It asserts that its self-defense action does not seek to escalate tensions or expand the war in the region, and calls upon the US and other external players to stay away from this conflict to prevent the spillover of tension across the region.

Should the rogue Israeli Regime commit another wrongdoing, I.R. Iran’s next steps will be more crushing and will give another unforgettable lesson to this heinous regime.
